Adrian M. Ionescu is a Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, Switzerland. He received the B.S./M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest, Romania and the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble, France, in 1989 and 1997, respectively. He has held staff and/or visiting positions at LETI-CEA, Grenoble, France, LPCS-ENSERG, Grenoble, France and Stanford University, USA, in 1998 and 1999. 

Dr. Ionescu has published more than 400 articles in international journals and conferences. He received many Best Paper Awards in international conferences, the Annual Award of the Technical Section of the Romanian Academy of Sciences in 1994 and the Blondel Medal in 2009 for remarkable contributions to the progress in engineering sciences in the domain of electronics.He is the 2013 recipient of the IBM Faculty Award in Engineering. He served the IEDM and VLSI conference technical committees and was the Technical Program Committee (Co)Chair of ESSDERC in 2006 and 2013.

He is director of the Laboratory of Micro/Nanoelectronic Devices (NANOLAB). He is appointed as national representative of Switzerland for the European Nanoelectronics Initiative Advisory Council (ENIAC) and member of the Scientific Committee of CATRENE. Dr. Ionescu is the European Chapter Chair of the ITRS Emerging Research Devices Working Group

Karin Jaymes was born in Switzerland, in 1976. She started working at Kuoni Travel Ltd in 1992. From 2000 to 2006 she was a Kuoni office manager in the Lausanne area. After having travelled around the world for private and business purposes she decided to take on a new challenge in working at the Nanoelectronic Devices Laboratory at EPFL as administrative assistant with main focus on the financial management of European research projects and organization of international workshops, Currently, she is also the Administrative Manager of the FET Flagship Pilot Guardian Angels that includes more than 40 partners from 13 European countries.

Igor Stolichnov

Igor Stolichnov was born in Saint Petersburg, in 1968. He received his Master degree in solid state physics at Saint Petersburg State Polytechnical University in 1994. In the years 1995-1996 he worked as a research assistant at the Wide-gap semiconductors laboratory, A.F. Ioffe Physical Technical Institute (St. Petersburg). In 1996 he joined EPFL, Laboratory of Ceramics (LC-IMX) where he was awarded PhD in 2000 for his work on physical mechanisms of losses in ferroelectric non-volatile memories. In 2010 he received from EPFL the grade of MER (Senior Scientist), since 2015 – member of staff of NANOLAB. His scientific interests are focused on functional materials and their applications for memory and information processing applications, including ferroelectrics, dielectrics and multiferroics. His research includes integration of ferroic nanostructures and films on semiconductors and metals for novel memory devices. He gives lectures on scanning probe microscopy; experimental methods of crystallography; structure, symmetry and properties of materials.
Andrei Müller

Andrei A. Müller received a M.Sc degree in Mobile and Satellite Communications in and another one in Microsystems in while completing a PhD in microwave engineering from the Politehnica University of Bucharest in Dec. 2011. Andrei did 2 Post-Docs in microwave filter design (2012) at Labsticc in Brest/ France and another 4 years Post-Doc-Marie Curie Integration Grant (fellowship) in the Telecommunication Institute (i-team) / Valencia/ Spain (2013-2017). He received the Gheorghe Cartianu award (2013) from the Romanian Academy of Science for the 3D Smith chart concept article “A 3D Smith chart based on the Riemann Sphere for Active and Passive Microwave Circuits” published in IEEE Microwave and Wireless Letters. Andrei is an Outstanding Associate Editor IEEE Access Journal for the years 2017& 2018 and is since 2018 a Senior Member of IEEE. Andrei authored 29 journal (15-first authored) publications and gave 10+ invited talks on the 3D Smith chart concept and USA and Europe. Since September 2017 Andrei is a Scientist in the Nanolab working on Vanadium Oxide devices for RF frequency applications in the frame of the Phase-Change Switch FET-Open H2020 project.
Francesco Bellando

Francesco Bellando was born in Torino, Italy, in 1989. In 2012 he received his bachelor degree in physics engineering from the Politecnico di Torino, and in 2015 he received the master diploma in Nanotechnologies for the ICTs from the same institute. During his PhD he has worked on miniaturized wearable ISFET sensors for health monitoring, specializing in microfabrication and characterization of integrated devices. In 2017 he received the George Smith Award for his collaboration to an extensive investigation on the Negative Capacitance effect on conventional and tunnel Field-Effect Transistors. He later demonstrated the application of the same principle to improve the sensitivity of conventional ISFETs. In 2020, he obtained his doctoral degree with the thesis “Sweat monitoring with CMOS compatible technology: ISFETs and beyond”. His current fields of research include wearable biosensors and Negative Capacitance ISFETs, as well as CNT array-based supercapacitors for energy storage.
Rosane Moura Dos Santos

Rosane Moura Dos Santos received the Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), Brazil, in 2008, the MSc. degree of Science in Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), Switzerland, in 2011, and the Ph.D. in Materials Science and Technology from the Polytechnic of Turin, Italy, in 2015.
She joined the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) in November 2017, where she is designing sensor systems.
Her research interests are in the fields of physical and chemical sensors, FEM, microfluidics, bio-polymers, polymeric composites and processing, nanocomposites and materials characterization.
Yingfen Wei

Yingfen Wei was born in Jiangsu, China, in 1990. She received her M.Sc degree in Nanotechnology from East China Normal University in 2015. After that, she completed her PhD study in University of Groningen, Netherlands (2015-2019), working on ferroelectric material-hafnia based thin films. During the same period (2015-2019), under the programme with Van Gogh travel grants, with the collaboration of University of Paris-sud, she worked on multiferroic tunnel junctions. In Jan 2020, she was awarded a doctorate degree with the thesis “Rhombohedral Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 thin films: Ferroelectricity and devices”. In 2020, She continued in the University of Groningen for one-year of Post-doc, studying neuromorphic computing with ferroelectric devices. From December 2020, she joined the EPFL NanoLab as a postdoc, working on ferroelectric projects and spin quantum bits technologies for quantum computing applications.

Teodor Rosca

Teodor Rosca was born in Romania in 1990. After obtaining the Bachelor degree in 2013 from the Polytechnic University in Bucharest, he joined EPFL and obtained the Master’s degree with a project on CMOS Microbolometers for Infrared Imaging. He is currently a PhD candidate in Nanolab, starting research on possible logic and analog function circuitry using new devices based on emerging technologies.
Fatemeh Qaderi

Fatemeh Qaderi was born in Tehran. She received her Bachelor’s degree in 2015 and Master’s in 2017, both in Electronics Engineering from Sharif University of Technology. Her Master’s thesis was on design and fabrication of an integrated superconducting resonator/ flux concentrator coupled to rf SQUID magnetic sensor. She also worked on THz metamaterial absorbers as well as picosecond time measurement by FPGA floorplanning. In September 2017, she joined EPFL Nanolab as a PhD candidate, working on hybrid 2D material switches for energy efficient sensing and computation.
Carlotta Gastaldi

Carlotta Gastaldi was born in Genova, Italy, in 1993. In 2015, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from the Politecnico di Torino. In 2016, she studied for one year in KU Leuven and afterwards she performed her Master’s project on resistive memory in imec. As a result, in 2017, she received a Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering with specialization in Micro & Nano systems from Politecnico di Torino. In March 2018, she joined EPFL NanoLab as a PhD candidate, on a project focused on fabrication and characterization of Ferroelectric FET.
Luca Capua

Luca Capua was born in Savona, Italy, in 1994. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2016. He continued his studies by pursuing a M.Sc. in Micro and Nanotechnologies for Integrated Systems, a joint degree between EPFL, Politecnico di Torino, and Grenoble INP. He obtained his Master’s Degree in 2018, after completing his Master’s project at IBM Research Zürich in materials and methods for an electronic tongue. In October 2018, he joined the EPFL Nanolab as a PhD candidate, working on sensors for biomarkers detection.
Sadegh Kamaei

Sadegh Kamaei was born in Iran, in 1992. In 2015, He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Shiraz University in Electronics Engineering. He continued his studies in Electronics Engineering at University of Tehran as a master student and obtained his Master’s Degree in 2018. His master thesis was on fabrication and characterization of photodetectors based on 2D materials. He also worked on storage devices and flexible optoelectronic devices during his master’s degree program. In December 2018, he joined EPFL Nanolab as a PhD candidate, on a project focused on fabrication and characterization of energy efficient steep slope devices based on 2D materials.
Shokoofeh Sheibani

Shokoofeh Sheibani received the B.S. degree in chemistry from University of Tehran, Iran, in 2012 and the M.S. degree in analytical chemistry from University of Tehran, in 2014. She is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree in electrochemistry at University of Tehran.
Since 2019, she has been working as Research Assistant and Ph.D. exchange student with the Nanolab, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland. Her research interest includes the design of electrochemical and Field Effect Transistor based sensors and biosensors, and her current resarch is design of miniaturized wearable ISFET sensors for health monitoring.
Pooya Dehghan

Pooya Dehghan was born in Shiraz, Iran, in 1990. He received his Bachelor Degree in electrical engineering, electronics from Shiraz University of Technology. He received his Master Degree in Micro & nano electromechanical engineering systems (MEMS/NEMS) from University of Tehran. His master thesis was on design and fabrication of novel MEMS coupled membrane based pressure sensor using field emission properties of CNTs. He is now working on nanomaterials and especially in 2D materials for energy storage devices.
Felix Risch

Felix Risch was born in Darmstadt, Germany, in 1993. In 2016 he received his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the TU Darmstadt. He obtained his master’s degree in 2019 from the TU Darmstadt after carrying out his master thesis at the Max-Planck-Institute for medical research in Heidelberg. He joined EPFL Nanolab in 2020 through the EU Project MANIC, in which he is working on conductive domain walls for neuromorphic circuit devices.
Fabio Bersano

Fabio Bersano was born in Cuneo, Italy, in 1996. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics Engineering from Politecnico di Torino in 2018. He continued his studies as a master student by pursuing a joint Master’s Degree between Politecnico di Torino, Phelma Grenoble-INP and EPFL in Nanotechnologies for Integrated Circuit Technologies. During his studies, he experienced research internships on applied quantum physics and sensors at INRiM (Turin, Italy) and IIT (Milan, Italy). He obtained his Master’s Degree in 2020 after completing his thesis project at Northeastern University in Boston (USA) on innovative MEMS resonators for RF applications. In November 2020, he joined the EPFL NanoLab as a PhD candidate, working on spinquantum bits technologies for quantum computing applications.
Ali Gilani

Ali Gilani was born in Iran and received his bachelor`s and master`s degrees from Sharif University of Technology and University of Tehran, respectively. His master`s thesis in mechatronics engineering was about the designing, simulation and fabrication of a MEMS device (micro-actuator) for cell penetration and manipulation purposes. After graduation, he continued his research on AFM-tip fabrication, continuous glucose measurement system and neural electrodes at Tehran Polytechnique and Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (IPM). By joining nanobioelectronic laboratory (NBEL) at University of Tehran, he gained experience in cancer diagnosis and treatment in terms of Nanobioelectronic. In December 2020, he joined EPFL Nanolab as a PhD candidate, on a project focused on bio-sensors for health monitoring.
